Fashion mogul, Kimora Lee Simmons and actor Djimon Hounsou have separated after 5½ years together, she confirmed Wednesday on Twitter.
"There have been quite a few hurtful rumors circulating," she wrote. "The truth is Djimon+I have been separated for some time. We have remained happy, loving, co-parenting friends+family. We all have much to be thankful for. #HappyThanksgiving"
Simmons' rep confirmed the split with People, noting that although "Gladiator" actor Hounsou, 48, and Simmons, 37, never married, they have one child together, 3½-year-old Kenzo.
From an Orange County divorce lawyer's perspective, since these two never married, they do not have to deal with issues relating to spousal support and property division. However, because the couple have one minor child together, someone will likely file a paternity lawsuit making the request for child custody, visitation and child support.
Like any other request for Orange County or Los Angeles County child support, determining child support is based on both parties' gross monthly income, timeshare of the child and other factors. Generally speaking, the more time you spend with the child, the less child support you will end up paying.
