No Fault Divorce

California is a no-fault divorce state. This means that anyone in the State of California, so long as they meet the residency requirements, can get a divorce from their spouse for any reason.  That’s right, this means that you may get a divorce in California for whatever reason you want.  Typically when the Petition for Dissolution is filed, people will check the box for “irreconcilable differences” and file it.

Other states require specific reasons as to why you want a divorce.
